Carol Bush, Executive Director

 

A native Tulsan, Carol is a graduate of Oral Roberts University, Tulsa Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business/Marketing.  Her first business venture began at age 23 when she opened her first retail store, the Paper Connection.  For several years she owned and operated several stores in the area with her final store being a shop on Brookside – The Beach Party – a surf shop selling swimsuits, cruise wear and fun year round!  

After years of retail, she dabbled in residential real estate as a sales associate for Rodger Erker.  In 1997 Carol began her work in public health in the area of community development as it pertains to local health issues.  She served a nineteen county area in Northeast Oklahoma as a Field Representative in the area of Community Development for the Oklahoma State Department of Health.  She also served as Coordinator for the Walk This Weigh – Oklahoma initiative as well as the Chair for Oklahoma Turning Point Council.  

Currently, she is the Executive Director of the Crime Commission and has been in this position since 2005.  “I believe that community safety is a matter of community involvement.  Together citizens, businesses, schools and faith communities can make a difference.  Together we can make Tulsa a safer place to live, work and play.”  

Carol has extensive experience as a community volunteer.  Over the years she has served on various boards in the Tulsa area including; Tulsa Area United Way, Camp Fire U.S.A., Tulsa Public Schools Mentoring Council, Philbrook Art After Five,  Board of Deacons at First Presbyterian Church, Emergency Infant Services, Philcrest Tennis Club Board of Directors, Brookside Merchant Association, Board Member of the Junior League of Tulsa for 5 years and served as President of the Junior League of Tulsa 2001-02, YWCA Board of Directors and Chair of the Advocacy Committee.   

Carol is married to Shawn Brett and together they are raising 4 daughters.  Leisure time activities include chasing the daughters, tennis and cycling.
